As congregation, we endeavour to instruct our children in the truth of God’s Word. In accordance with the divine injunction of Deuteronomy 6:7 and Ephesians 6:4, we see this biblical instruction first and foremost as a parental responsibility, to be fulfilled at home. But we also acknowledge that the church has a role to play in the instruction of its youth. Therefore official Biblical instruction is given to the youth of the church. This begins around the age of 14 years, and continues for about 7 years, when most of the youth make public profession of their faith, and are thereby admitted to Holy Supper.
For this official instruction, the creeds and confessions of the church are used, especially the Heidelberg Catechism which was developed by our spiritual forefathers for the purpose of instruction. We largely follow the school calendar. Each week the students are given an assignment to be prepared at home, and each week for about one hour instruction is given by the pastor (as much as possible) or by another able person from the consistory/congregation.
